The Process Candidates apply on-line by selecting a specific session in which to enroll. Most sessions are three weeks long, although a few in the early summer are two weeks long. Once a pre-determined number of candidates has enrolled, that session is closed. By limiting the number of candidates per session, each is assured of Mr. Halden's undivided attention. Each session begins on a Monday. That morning, the candidate is emailed a Torts essay question that appeared on a previous bar exam. Within 48 hours (or, for a two-week session, within 24 hours), the candidate prepares a written answer and emails that answer to Mr. Halden, who responds with a specific, critical analysis of the candidate's answer. At the same time, and in a separate email, Mr. Halden sends the candidate a Contracts essay question, and the cycle repeats itself. By session's end, the candidate has answered questions in the following areas:
Candidates may request further clarifications on the essay critiques at no additional cost. Mr. Halden's analysis of a candidate's answer incorporates the points made in his analyses of that candidates's prior answers. Thus, the program is designed to help each candidate increase his/her competence level so, by the end of the session, the candidate is ready to tackle the real bar exam! While candidates may take 24 hours (in a two-week session) or 48 hours (in a three-week session) to submit an answer, each is encouraged to prepare that answer in 45 minutes of uninterrupted computer time. This helps simulate the conditions under which the candidate will perform when it counts. Mr. Halden does all the work himself. No essays are delegated. Mr. Halden also personally responds to all inquiries from candidates, whether or not related to a previous analysis. © Over the Bar Exam 2007. |
